JLES Thames were appointed as the Specialist Contractor to finalise the outstanding S278 works on behalf of Vistry.

The scheme involved:
  • • 7 day complete road closure which required extensive traffic management and diversion route.
  • • Re-construction of speed ramps and tables finished in HRA with 50 / 50 mix of mid grey and lightgrey coloured chippings.
  • • 520m. carriageway re-surfacing.
  • • 300m. footway re-surfacing.
  • • Crossing point installation.
  • • Kerb repairs and replacement.
  • • Highway drainage length installation and connection.
  • • Installation of structural drainage liners.
  • • Swale re-profiling.
  • • Street light column re-alignment.
  • • Street light column re-painting.

CHALLENGES


The scheme was located on a busy main road, adjacent to a live construction site and business park and therefore involved:

  • • Local Authority / planning authority liaisons to change carriageway specification from blocks to a more durable material.
  • • Implementation of road closure and diversion. The road is used heavily by HGVs and car transporters for access to the business park.
  • •Carriageway re-construction at T-junctions required extensive traffic management.
