Camp Road, Upper Heyford

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Vistry Group appointed JLES Thames as the Specialist Contractor on this busy main road scheme, which was adjacent to a live construction site and business park.

JLES were instructed to finalise the outstanding Section 278 works, without causing hassle and disruption to the large vehicles regularly using the highways.

THE SCHEME INVOLVED

• A 7-day road full road closure took place which required extensive traffic management & a diversion route to be implemented and monitored.

• Re-construction of speed ramps and tables finished in HRA with 50/50 mix of mid-grey and light-grey coloured chippings.

• 520m carriageway re-surfacing.

• 300m footway re-surfacing.

• Crossing point installation.

• Kerb repairs and replacement.

• Highway drainage length installation on connection.

• Installation of structural drainage liners.

• Swale re-profiling.

• Street light column re-alignment & re-painting.

KEY FEATURES

• JLES Thames were appointed as the Specialist Contractor to finalise the outstanding S278 works on behalf of Vistry Group.

• Implementation of road closures and diversion, utilising extensive traffic management to ensure resident access was always available.

• Lump sum, fixed cost contract.

• Extensive resident/business liaison programme implemented – face to face engagement prior to surfacing, letter drops issued and Parish Council announcements.

• Social media groups were used by JLES to provide advice and updates to residents.

• £200,000 contract value.

CHALLENGES

• The scheme was located on a busy main road, adjacent to a live construction site and business park so it involved a high level of local authority & planning authority liaisons to change the carriageway specifications from blocks to a move durable material.

• The road is used heavily by HGVs and car transporters for access to the business park, so the implementation of road closures and diversions required extensive planning.

• Carriageway re-construction at T-junctions required extensive traffic management.
