our story so far

We are proud of our 18 years in business and how we have continued to grow into something bigger and better year upon year. Here are the chapters in the JLES story so far.

JL Construction & Project Management LTD was founded by 2 engineers, who at the time worked for one of the UK’s leading housing developers. Our founders recognized a need for an all-in-one solution to assist housing developers’ technical departments with the adoption process, this was following research showing a huge backlog of adoptions in the UK.

The first orders were received from major housebuilders like Redrow Homes, Bellway Homes & Gleeson Homes which led to the first set of completed adoptions by JLES.

As the client base grew so did the team and we hit 5 employees, one of them being the first ever apprentice recruited to JLES.

With the business quickly growing, it came to our attention that the company name didn’t resonate with our clients, which is when JLES Group LTD was established. Our order-book started to grow and it was time to form the first embryonic regional businesses. JLES Northern was formed, working with developers throughout and around Yorkshire. And JLES North West was formed, working with developers around Manchester, Liverpool and surrounding areas.

After 4 years of like-minded engineers working together, they created a package that was a one-stop shop for developers with any adoption requirements, The Post-Build Adoption Package. This led to more orders and more completions, but then the financial crisis severely hit client spend, so it was time for JLES to penetrate the social housing sector

Staff numbers grew to 15 full time engineers & technical staff which supported the establishment of JLES Midlands the JLES 2nd operational region (now Central East & West). As this was happening, the client base was further diversified to include commercial developers & bond surety providers.

Design, Build and Adopt infrastructure package was created, leading us to work with public sector & administrator clients.

Nationwide geographical spread was established as the JLES Southern region was opened which supported the development of the JLES special projects operations.

Staff numbers grew to incorporate 30 full time technical and engineering staff and our annual turnover exceeded £4.25 million.

JLES reaches its 10-year anniversary, and a new brand identity was launched! We were awarded: UK Top 10 Apprentice Employer, Best Business Product at Housebuilder Product Awards, Regional Employer of the year, highly commended at Housebuilder Awards.

JLES Groups consolidated turnover exceeded £5.5million

The demand from the South West of the UK grew, so JLES South West was established as the 5th region. JLES was also awarded Subcontractor of the Year at the highly commended Housebuilder Awards.

The Post Build Adoption Package (PBA) which had been trialled, tested & developed over the previous 9 years, was awarded Best Business Product at the Housebuilder Product Awards.

JLES was named Subcontractor of the Year again at the Housebuilder Awards and £10.5 million of road and sewer bond reductions was achieved for our clients.

The 6th region, JLES Thames was launched to serve clients in the Thames Water region. JLES Legal Services was launched to assist all regions with the management of legal issues.

In the face of the global pandemic, we developed safe working practise to deal with COVID-19 outbreak and continued to keep our people secure whilst delivering innovative solutions for our clients.

Announced the opening of the 7th regional office, JLES Exeter.

The split of JLES Central into Central East and Central West created 8 JLES regions, with JLES Scotland becoming the 9th. Having never worked in this area until 2021, this is an exciting venture and huge step in the direction of nationwide coverage.
